Zach Polignone

Practicum/Internship Student

What do I do at CAPS?

My name is Zach, and I am a counseling intern here at CAPS. I have a B.S. in Psychology: Counseling from Liberty University and am currently working on my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. As a graduate student at CAPS, I work with college students navigating a wide variety of concerns, and I love the opportunity to partner with students and walk with them through whatever they bring into my office. I am especially passionate about Tabletop Roleplaying Therapy, and I assist with the Dice and Discovery group which helps students explore themselves through roleplaying games.

What is it like to work with me?

Working with me means that you are in the driver's seat. I believe you are the expert on your story; you just need a safe space to explore that story in ways you might not have ventured before. I will do my best to create that space by listening, encouraging, remaining curious, and always learning more about who you are and what you need. I want to meet you where you are, hear what you are facing, and walk with you as you decide what is next on your journey. I may ask you to create realistic goals, offer tools to help with the problems you identify, and practice skills with you to aid as you grow. Above all, I hope in my office, you can be authentically you. As your counselor, I will be my silly, nerdy, passionate self, and I hope that this place is one where you can also be yourself, whoever that may be.

What do I do outside of CAPS?

When I'm not at CAPS, work, or class, the first place you will find me is around the table playing roleplaying games with my friends. Whether that's sailing the seas as pirates, attending wizard school, or exploring underground civilizations, my favorite thing to do is to tell stories and roll dice with my favorite people. If I'm not there, you might catch me at a baseball game (go Orioles), playing my guitar, getting ice cream, playing disc golf, reading a good book, or seeing a movie!
