ADHD Coaching

CAPS offers individualized coaching services to students diagnosed with ADHD.  While traditional therapy explores the psychological impact of prior life experiences, ADHD Coaching helps students respond effectively to their immediate challenges in a higher education setting.

ADHD Coaches encourage students struggling with daily distractions to adapt to unexpected changes in the present moment, refocus attention on primary goals, and create feasible strategies to achieve academic tasks and life wellness goals.

How to Access ADHD Coaching

Students who provide documented evidence of an existing ADHD diagnosis, or suspect they may meet the diagnostic criteria, must visit the Office of Disability and Academic Support Services (ODAS) located on the ground floor of Demoss Hall to request a referral to CAPS.

Students who provide CAPS with a written referral from ODAS are eligible to receive ADHD screening assessments onsite at our CAPS office located in 1830 Green Hall.  Based on clinical results of our psychological testing, CAPS staff may refer a student to ADHD Coaching services.

Things to Know for ADHD Coaching

  • ADHD Coaching is not a substitute for formal clinical diagnostic assessments provided by a licensed clinical psychologist (LCP), medical assessments by an MD of Psychiatry, or ongoing medical supervision of a student’s medication management plan.

  • ADHD Coaching may be provided as a supportive adjunct to individual therapy or group counseling services provided simultaneously by CAPS counseling staff or other third-party care providers, per ongoing clinical/medical recommendations.

  • CAPS staff do not provide academic tutoring services.
