Counselor

What do I do at Counseling & Psychological Services?

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and provide individual counseling and specialized trauma treatment services. I also lead process groups and provide psychoeducation on key topics in counseling, psychology, and relationships through workshops and presentations.

What is it like to work with me?

My goal from the first session is to establish a strong therapeutic alliance as the foundation for making meaningful progress in therapy. I enjoy cultivating change through warmth, insight, humor, psychoeducation, and encouragement. I provide a supportive and safe space where students feel comfortable exploring the meaning behind their suffering and finding purpose in it. I strive to help students view their relationships, suffering, strengths, and limitations through the lens of Scripture, and walk alongside them as they gain a biblical understanding of themselves and God through those experiences. My hope is to draw them closer to Christ and others in the process.

I’m a teacher at heart, so students will often see me use my whiteboard when explaining relationships, counseling concepts, and/or biblical principles. My counseling interests include anxiety, interpersonal relationships, God attachment, resilience, role dynamics, shame, and trauma. I often use CBT-based approaches, motivational interviewing, concepts from attachment theory, a heavy focus on skill-building, and trauma-informed care.

What do I do outside of Counseling & Psychological Services?

I enjoy reading, playing sports (i.e., basketball, football, mixed martial arts), and spending time with my family (I have three boys, so they keep me busy). I also love teaching, so you’ll often see me in the classroom when I’m not counseling. I’m currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision and hope to become a full-time professor in the future. Lastly, one of my favorite hobbies has been hosting my podcast called “God Attachment Healing” podcast. If you enjoy listening to podcasts and want to learn how your attachment style influences your relationship with God, feel free to check it out.
