Maiah Bargesser
Practicum/Internship Student
What do I do at CAPS?
I am a counseling practicum student pursuing my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University. At Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), I have the opportunity to learn and grow under the supervision of experienced counselors while supporting students throughout their counseling journey. Through this experience, I am developing my counseling skills, deepening my understanding of client care, and learning how to best serve individuals from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. Each day, I am gaining valuable experience that helps shape me into a more effective counselor and compassionate person. I graduated in 2024 from Bethel University with my Sociology degree.
What is it like to work with me?
My hope is that every person who interacts with me feels seen, valued, and supported. I strive to create a warm and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable being themselves and sharing their experiences. I enjoy building genuine connections with others and believe that laughter can often be an important part of the healing and growth process. Whether we are having a meaningful conversation or simply sharing a lighthearted moment, I want those around me to know they are respected, cared for, and never alone in what they are facing.
What do I do outside of CAPS?
Outside of CAPS, I enjoy spending time with friends, family, and my husband staying active whenever I can. You can often find me playing board games with friends, competing in pickleball, disc golf, or spikeball, or going for a run or walk around downtown Lynchburg. One of my favorite ways to stay connected with family is through FaceTime calls with my nieces and nephews. I also enjoy unwinding with a good show and a favorite snack at the end of the day. I value meaningful relationships, opportunities for fun and adventure, and finding joy in the simple moments of everyday life.
