Lina Ramirez, M.A.

Resident in Counseling

What do I do at Counseling & Psychological Services?

I am a Resident in Counseling and within CAPS I provide both individual and group Counseling. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Los Andes University located in Colombia, South America, and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. I am working towards my LPC licensure in the state of Virginia and hope to become a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist within the next couple of years.

I have a heart for working with students who are struggling with their relationships with their bodies, food, exercise, and/or body image. I often work with students who are struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating as well as all other body image-related concerns. As a former international student, I also enjoy coming alongside international students and students who are returning to the US after having been overseas; as they navigate the difficulties, confusion, uncertainty, and/or discomfort that may arise as part of their adjustment to a new country and throughout their acculturation process.

What is it like to work with me?

I am committed and passionate about walking alongside you on your journey toward seeking answers, purpose, healing, and long-lasting freedom in whichever areas you may be struggling in. I strive to provide a safe, warm, and client-centered approach, where you may feel comfortable sharing at your own pace.

I believe a big part of the healing process begins when we are able to view ourselves, our stories, and our struggles, from a more tender and self-compassionate lens. I am a big proponent of the transformational power that becomes available to us when we can identify what brings the most meaning to our lives (our core values) and learn how to make intentional present-day choices that reflect and align with this. In sessions, I strive to equip you with practical skills & tools that will help you practice and expand your ability to do just that on a more regular basis. You will be met with an invitation to start taking a curious and nonjudgmental approach toward the areas that brought you into counseling; while receiving challenges and encouragement to begin taking the necessary steps to position yourself in the right direction and enable you to elicit long-lasting changes.

My hope is that the work we do in sessions together may go further than the elimination or reduction of the symptoms and concerns that initially brought you to counseling. Hopefully, by the end of our time together, you may know yourself more, feel more equipped, and be empowered to continue pursuing a life that is fulfilling and meaningful for you!

What do I do outside of Counseling & Psychological Services?

Outside of CAPS, you will most likely find me either sitting under my weighted blanket with a book in hand or trying to catch the perfect sunrise/sunset from the comfort of my hammock. I enjoy spending time with friends, discovering new coffee shops, cooking, painting, and the occasional road trip.
