Practicum/Internship Student
What do I do at CAPS?
Hello, my name is Lia Espinal. I am currently pursuing my master's in social work degree from Liberty University. I am passionate about working with students struggling with anxiety, depression, and their relationship with their bodies. I also love working with Hispanic/ Latino students. I help co-lead “Comparte Conmigo,” a group designed to provide Hispanic students a safe environment to share their experiences and build community. I also co-lead Making Peace with Food, a process group that offers students struggling with their body image and relationship with food a safe space to find words for their thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a nonjudgmental environment.
What is it like to work with me?
I am passionate about learning about others' stories and providing clients with a safe environment to process and heal from their past experiences. I love integrating humor into my sessions. I expect my clients to at least pretend to laugh at my jokes. By the end of counseling, I hope each client feels valued and prepared to address future challenges.
What do I do outside of CAPS?
Outside of CAPS, there is a big chance you could find me cuddling with my cats, Bubba and Odie. I am a huge home body. I love to do anything that involves staying at home, like watching movies, cooking, eating good food, and spending time with my friends.
