Resident in Counseling

What do I do at Counseling & Psychological Services?

I am a Licensed Resident in Counseling working towards becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor. I am on track to receive that license in the Fall of 2023 and I’m thrilled about that! I completed a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University in 2019 and have been working in the counseling field ever since. At Counseling & Psychological Services here at Liberty, I work with individuals to provide therapy in the areas of trauma, anxiety, family dynamic issues, relational issues, etc., all while using a template mainly of Narrative Therapy which involves using one’s story as a whole to aid in one’s healing. At CAPS, I am on the trauma team, working closely with individuals who have experienced trauma in their lives. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to aid in the healing of trauma and am seeking clinical supervision to become officially certified in it.

What is it like to work with me?

As your therapist, my greatest goal is to provide a safe place for you to process and heal from wounds in your story that are affecting you now. I am a firm believer that every story matters and a lot of counseling is realizing the reality of that. I use a combination of Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Therapy to help guide you to conclusions that address the negative beliefs you may be operating out of because of your story. While I will not give advice and I expect clients to work hard, I will also work hard to help you come to address what may be inhibiting you towards growth/achieving the goals you want to and to form healthier conclusions.

What do I do outside of Counseling & Psychological Services?

When I’m not at CAPS, I enjoy exploring the Lynchburg area and traveling to different places, seeing family and friends along the way. I was raised on Cape Cod in Massachusetts and feel most myself when I’m on the beach! I love spending time with my husband. We love to go on walks and play with our dog Rowan, try new foods, go see our favorite artists in concert, cook dinner with friends, and serve in our church together. We are also looking forward to having our first baby due in October of 2023 and welcoming him into our lives! Lastly, you should probably know that I’m Taylor Swift’s biggest fan and may use a lyric or two of hers from time to time in session.
